How Rynova collects, uses and protects your personal data, and the rights you have over it.

Last updated 30 October 2026

1. Who we are

  • Rynova is run by Graphibytes, Nairobi, Kenya. We decide how your personal data is used (we are the data controller). For anything about your data, email support@graphibytes.co.ke.
  • We follow the Kenya Data Protection Act, 2019. Where other laws apply to you, such as the EU or UK GDPR, we follow them too.

2. What we collect

  • Account: your email, phone number if you give one, name, date of birth and gender, and how you sign in.
  • Profile: your photos, bio, job, education, height, lifestyle, interests, languages and anything else you choose to add, and who you want to meet.
  • Location: your city and country, and, if you allow it, your phone's location, which we turn into an approximate area and distance. Others never see your exact location.
  • Activity: who you like, pass on, match with and view, your messages, photos and voice notes in chat, reports and blocks, and your settings.
  • Verification: if you verify your profile, a selfie of a set pose.
  • Device: your phone model, Android version, app version, notification token and sign-in sessions.
  • Payments: the plan, amount, payment method type and status. Card details go straight to our payment partners; we never see them.
  • Ads: if you watch an optional ad, Google AdMob receives your device's advertising ID and how you interact with the ad. We record which reward you earned.
  • Crash reports: if the app crashes, the error, your phone model, app version and account number.
  • Messages you send us, for example to support.

3. Sensitive information

  • Your gender and who you are interested in can show your sexual orientation, and you may choose to share your religion. The law treats these as sensitive. We use them only to show you matches and to show you to the people you want to meet, and only with your explicit consent, which we ask for before you start.
  • We never give sensitive information to advertisers, and we never use it for ads.
  • You can withdraw your consent at any time by removing the information or deleting your account. Because matching depends on it, Rynova cannot work without it.

4. Why we use your data

  • To run Rynova for you (our agreement with you): your account, profile, matching, chat, Gold and support.
  • With your consent: sensitive information, your phone's location, notifications and, where the law asks for it, personalised ads. You can change these at any time.
  • For our legitimate interests, balanced against yours: keeping members safe, preventing fraud, spam and abuse, moderating content, fixing crashes and improving the app.
  • To meet legal duties: keeping payment records for tax, and answering lawful requests from authorities.

5. Automated decisions

Software ranks who you see, using shared interests, lifestyle, distance, age and activity. Automated checks screen photos and text for rule breaks, and our Safety Engine can limit an account that many people report. A person reviews these limits on request; email us if you think one is wrong.

6. Who sees your data

  • Other members see your profile as described in Privacy & safety, and the people you match with see your messages.
  • Service providers who work for us under contract, only for the purpose given: Supabase (hosting and database), Google Firebase (notifications), Google AdMob (optional ads), Google Play and Paystack (payments), Sentry (crash reports), Geoapify with OpenStreetMap data (turning a location into an area name) and GIPHY (GIF search, through our servers, without your identity).
  • Authorities, when the law requires it, or when we believe in good faith it is needed to prevent serious harm or to protect our members or Rynova.
  • A buyer or successor, if Rynova is sold or reorganised, under the same protections.
  • We do not sell your personal data.

7. Data outside Kenya

Some of our providers store or process data outside Kenya, for example in the European Union or the United States. We use providers with appropriate safeguards, such as contractual protections recognised by data protection law, as the Kenya Data Protection Act requires.

8. How long we keep it

  • While your account is open, we keep your data so Rynova works.
  • When you delete your account, your profile, photos, messages, likes and matches are deleted at once, chat media within hours, and copies in backups within 30 days.
  • Verification selfies are deleted 30 days after they are reviewed. Notifications go after 90 days and crash reports after at most 90 days.
  • We keep payment records as long as tax law requires, currently 5 years, without your profile.
  • To stop banned or seriously reported people coming back, we keep a scrambled (hashed) copy of the email and phone number of a deleted account, with a count of reports against it, for 2 years.

9. Your rights

  • See and get a copy of your data: Profile, Download my data.
  • Correct it: edit your profile at any time.
  • Delete it: Profile, Delete account. You can also ask by email.
  • Object to or restrict how we use it, withdraw consent, ask for your data in a portable format, and ask for a person to review an automated decision.
  • Email support@graphibytes.co.ke for any of these. We answer within the time the law allows.
  • You can also complain to the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner in Kenya (odpc.go.ke) or, if you live elsewhere, your local data protection authority.

10. Security

Your data is encrypted in transit, access is limited to the people who need it, staff sign in with two-step verification and their actions are logged. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach puts you at risk, we tell you and the authorities as the law requires.

11. Over 18s only

Rynova is only for adults. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18, and we delete accounts we find belong to someone younger. Please report any you see.

12. Ads and your choices

Ads in Rynova are optional: only free accounts see them, and only when they choose to watch one for a reward. Where the law requires it, we ask your permission before ads are personalised. You can reset or delete your advertising ID in your phone's settings (Google, Ads).

13. Changes

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will tell you in the app and, where needed, ask for your agreement again.
